Rebbie Jackson

Postby Delage on Thu Jul 02, 2009 12:41 pm

I'm sorry for La Toya, but Rebbie has always been my favourite Jackson sister. Janet peaked with Rhythm Nation and then went downhill, and La Toya... well, as much as I like her, the production has not been up to standard quality most of the time. I think right after the Bad Girl album she lost the track of where her career was going.

But Rebbie made the wonderful Centipede, and released some good singles in the 80's. Her albums though, much like La Toya's, suffered from weak production values. Still, I think she has a strong voice, high pitched but she knows how to control it well. Her 1998 comeback album Yours Faithfully is a masterpiece, there's not a song there that I don't like.

And if you have had the pleasure of listening to her latest song, "Save The Stress For Last", from last year, you can say she's never sounded better.

I hope she eventually releases a new album. With the death of Michael it looks like it will be more than unlikely, but hey, maybe she ends up releasing a studio album sooner than La Toya's Startin' Over

Also, does anyone have her b-side Eternal Love? I've been looking for that for ages.

Many thanks, I hope we can start a Rebbie discussion here :)

I like a lot of Rebbie's stuff, but I think she might be too... normal? I love La Toya's outlandishness.

Plaything is probably my favourite Rebbie single besides Centipede - and the video is excellent too! :D I think she might've started a bit too late to ever experience bigger success though...

Hah, that's the criticism I always get when I talk of Rebbie, that she is too "normal" and not outrageous. While I like Toy's sense of humour and weird things she's done, it's nice to have a Jackson family member who looks more grounded that the rest :D

Her music may not be as challenging as her brothers, but I like it that way. Yours faithfully was an album filled with smooth r&b jams and I think it worked very well, and her voice never sounded better.

I love rebbie. She is definatley one of my favourite jacksons! Vocally I think she is amazing, out of her siblings I would rank her second to Michael. She has a beautiful jazz tone to her voice and excellent vocal control. I have her centipede, reaction and yours faithfully album. I heard she did a few songs after yours faithfully but I haven't yet heard them. Please if anyone has them I would love to hear them! I have a Jackson family you tube channel where I plan to upload alot of rebbbies performances and interviews. The channel was recently removed so it's gonna take me a while to get all the videos back up again. But u guys should check it out. http://www.youtube.com/user/libsta84

She had done a few demos during her Vegas stint in '99/'00 (I think?), but it they never got released. My guess is that she just lost interest after Michael's vanity label folded and never searched for another company to release it through (or she did and just got rejected).

Either way I think she just decided to retire from the music industry.

Well she made a collaboration last year in Preston Glass' album Music As Medicine, the song Save The Stress For Last in which she sings the solo lead vocals, so she does come back to the studio from time to time.

I doubt we'll ever see a full album release but I hope she keeps making some collaborations here and there.

You can listen to the song on her myspace: http://www.myspace.com/rebbiejackson

It's a jazzy chillout song which really compliments her vocals.

She also recorded a duet with All-4-One, the song was called "Who You Are" and was to be included in a CD for the benefit of the Sydney 2000 paralympic games but for some reason it remained unreleased

I Love Rebbie too & yes I agree she has the powerful voice from the girls. My favourite songs are: Centepede, Yours Faithfully, Once In A Life Time, Ready for Love, To Night I'm Yours, You Send The Rain Away, Recation & lots more. Sadly she only made 4 video clips! just like La Toya. By the way is there any official website of Rebbie? I wish Rebbie & La Toya were famous like Janet. Janet is really famous in Oman.

Rebbie has the greatest voice from all Jackson sisters.Unfortunality when she decided to make a career at music industry, she was already 35 years old...Too old to start a career as a new singer...And also there was Michael's shadow over her...

Does anybody know if the albums Centipede and Reaction were ever released on CD? I know the last two were, but I've never seen those on CD anywhere.

If not, I think it's time for a Cherry Pop reissue with some bonus added! Michael's death has renewed interest not only in him but in all the Jackson family, as sad as it is.

I always wondered why Toy's first album reissue did not include any extras. I mean, it was nice to have it at last on CD, but surely it wouldn't have been too costly to put some b-sides and remixes of the era tacked on the end?

What extras were there for them to include though? I'm not aware of any remixes other than the 7" edits, and there were no B-Sides.

Well, at least they could have included the 7" versions if nothing else. Basically try to get as much vinyl-only songs and mixes on CD.

Hey there's an interview with Rebbie from 2001 done by a fan which is a marvel, it shows the interviewer was a fan and asked her a lot of questions you don't normally hear, as it is focused on HER career and not on her brothers and sisters. It's probably her most thorough interview I've seen:

Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Va7nzc5CqdM
Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SsUwCIK_Mw0

Part 3 is not yet uploaded

I never really liked Rebbie, because I always thought she was kind of stuck up, but after this interview I love her!
So thanks a lot Delage
